The Vineyards of Brunello di Montalcino.

Descending from the famous town of Montalcino, towards the village of Torrenieri, your
gaze will inevitably fall on the ridge that hosts the vineyards of Azienda Agricola Cordella
Maddalena which, perhaps by a twist of fate, seem to have taken the shape of a large
upside-down C with two beautiful Tuscan cypress trees guarding them from the top.
The first 3 hectares of vineyard were planted in 1998, 5 additional hectares in 2000, and
today the estate covers about 60 hectares of vineyard at an elevation of about 350 metres
above sea level on gently sloping land that descends towards the valley floor.

The layout of the vineyard is 3 metres between rows and 90 centimetres between plants,
with a density reaching 3,800/4,000 vines per hectare.

Each vineyard is carefully designed to optimize the ventilation needed for the plants and
make organic cultivation even more productive.
Our vineyards are made up of the finest selection of Sangiovese Rosso vines from the
best Italian nurseries.

Geological and hydrogeological studies have highlighted the nature of the soil which is
composed of Pliocene clayey-sandy sediments belonging to the Neoautochthonous
complex.

Work in the vineyard is done manually: pruning, shoot thinning, de-suckering, green
pruning, thinning, the selection of clusters before veraison and, finally, the harvest.
The harvest is carried out manually: only the best clusters are selected, carefully placed in
small crates and carried to the winery.

The immediacy between the harvest and the arrival at the grape selection table is due to
the concentration of all activities within a single company structure.

Each vineyard has been given its own name in order to give it a historical and
productive identity. To be precise, the crown jewel of our Brunello di Montalcino
comes from the selection of Vigna Meleto.
